Pantaenius - Hurricane Information

September 07, 2017

As you are no doubt aware, the Caribbean and Florida were devastated by the recent hurricanes Irma and Maria. The maritime infrastructure and numerous boats and yachts are also affected. In order to gain access to the devastated areas and to be able to quickly begin to deal with the damage caused, Pantaenius has sent a team of experts to the Caribbean and Florida in cooperation with MCS - Marine Claims Service. With the help of a mobile damage office on board a sailing catamaran, work could be started on the spot one week after Hurricane Irma had passed. Another team is currently preparing to leave for the Caribbean, as the situation on the Virgin Islands in particular is extremely time-consuming and complex.

Due to the extraordinary strength and enormous size of the two storms, the infrastructure and communication and transport options on site have been extremely limited or completely lost. The resources urgently needed to restore electricity, water and general reconstruction are still lacking or are insufficiently channelled into the affected areas. It goes without saying that the well-being of the local population is a top priority under the given circumstances. We therefore coordinate our teams with local authorities and organisations in order to ensure that our claims handling does not hinder their work or block equipment.

If you are in the affected area and you suspect your yacht has possible damage, please send us the following information by email to

-          Client name/Boat name/ Policy number

-          Exact place of your vessel - on land (shipyard name) or at mooring (harbor name and berth number)

-          Local contact (name and phone number)

-          Last pictures of your vessel before the event
